Once, someone asked Albert Einstein why he had a habit of keeping his desk messy, quipping that this could be a sign of a cluttered mind.  Instead of making a joke about empty desks and empty minds, Einstein instead starting thinking about desk design in general.

He started talking about different materials used to construct desks.  Apparently mahogany was his favorite, and he was particularly not a fan of any desks made out of plastic or metal.  He also liked it when desks have built in shelves and drawers.

For some reason Einstein’s work on desk design critiques has not been emphasized by historians since his death.
